Captain Zipline FAQ
Read our new Trip Preparation Info Page
What are the age and weight restrictions?
Adventurers from 8 to 80 yrs old can zip.
For our guest’s comfort and safety we limit men’s weight to 260 pounds and women to 200 pounds. There is some flexibility for very tall customers. We are willing to give up business in the interest of safety and to assure that the harnesses fit correctly and comfortably.
Kids between 8 and 13 or anyone under 100 pounds will have to go with a guide because they may not have enough weight to carry themselves across the entire cable length. They are in their own harness with slings and pulley with the guide traveling behind them attached with a safety sling and carabiner. After the first couple of cables, they may be able to go by themselves, guides permitting.
What are the fitness restriction?
Reasonable health and fitness is required. If you can climb up a 16 foot ladder without stopping and walk up a 200 yard trail (not very steep), and fit into the harness, you will be OK Anyone suffering from the following conditions may cause a dangerous situation with regard to other persons or themselves and cannot participate:
Epilepsy, fits, severe head injury, recurrent black outs, nervous system disease, recurrent dislocation of any limb, diabetes, mental illness, drug or alcohol addiction, recent back injury, asthma, rheumatic fever, recent blood donation, autism, or any physical or mental condition that should preclude them from participating. No one should participate against medical advice and should consult a doctor in advance if they have any concerns.
In the event that anyone feels ill or unwell, they need to notify the guide immediately.
What should I bring with me?
Tennis shoes or hiking boots, no sandals of any kind are allowed. A light jacket if needed. Shorts are OK for warm weather. No baggy clothing. All jewelry should be left behind. Hair ties are required for long hair. Bring a bottle of water for the cooler or we have them for sale.
Cameras and video cameras can be used only on the practice cables and then must be checked in at the guide shed. No cell phones or smoking are allowed on the tour. We have a professional photographer and videographer and photos and videos are available.
What times, days of the week and months during the season do you operate?
Captain Zipline Tour is open from March through December. During the Summer months of June-August we have 2 trips regularly at 10 AM and 1 PM, with additional trips added when necessary at 8 AM and 4 PM. Groups of 20 or more can run continuously with custom start times available with three weeks advance reservations. March through May and September through December trips are usually on weekends at 10 AM and 1 PM or whenever we can build a group of 6 or more. Custom groups can be run anytime during these shoulder season months. Moonlight zip trips are also available.
How long does the tour take?
Training, orientation, practice and ziplining on the cables and hiking between the ground platforms with guide discussions of the scenic, geologic and historic features takes the average group about 2-2 ½ hours, and travel to the site adds 30 minutes more aboard the European 12 person 6-wheel drive troop carrier. It’s a trip in itself!
